No, the lights do not tangle. The stand has an additional plug-in outlet for up to 1500 miniature indoor Christmas tree lights or decorative outfits. Outlet is built in and keeps wires from getting tangled .  (The stand plugs into the extension lead and lights strings plug into the stand)

NOTE: You will need to wrap the excess cord around the pole of the tree to avoid looping it  around as it turns and will eventually pull the plug out of the socket.

There is no adjustment for different diameter trunks. It fits tree size with pole diameter 31.8 mm (adapts to 22.2 mm pole diameter with included adapter)

Whilst we request to check the size prior to purchasing the product. Here is a suggestion from our customers which made it work: Wrap a few layers of duct tape around the bottom of the pole of the tree so it would fit perfectly into the rotating base.
